While all your belongings are valuable to you, some are simply more important than others, especially during your first few days and nights after a relocation. Here are eight items that you must absolutely pack and take with you during a move.
Without your keys you won’t be able to enter into your new home. And while it may sound absurd you will be amazed how often people tend to forget their keys and end up making an empty round trip in order to retrieve their keys.
First aid kit
Hopefully you won’t need it but it is still better to play it safe. After all relocations do require a certain amount of heavy lifting which can result into several nicks, scrapes and muscular injuries. Make sure that your first aid kit has:
- Antiseptic wipes
- A thermometer
- Pain killers
You will need your chargers to recharge your essential electronic devices such as your mobile phone, tablet and laptop. This is especially important if you tend to work from home and need to have a fully operation computer, and keep contact with your co-workers and employers.
Sleeping on a naked mattress shouldn’t be an option, especially if you have kids. So make sure that you can easily find clean and fresh bed linens as soon as the movers from the relocation company which you have hired have unloaded all your belongings. This will ensure that you and your kids will have a good night of sleep after a long and stressful day of moving.
Moving isn’t the filthiest job on the world but it will still make you sweat and dirty. By bringing toiletries such as soap, shampoo and clean towels with you, you will be able to have a shower after your relocation is over and wash away all the dust and sweat from your body. Also don’t forget to take your toothpaste and toothbrush, so that you can properly wash your teeth before going to bed and on the next morning.
Once you shower you will certainly want to put on fresh clothes on your body and this is why you must pack a small bag for every member of your family which contains clean underwear, pants and shirts. If you are moving during the winter make sure that you also pack jackets for everyone.
As soon as the unpacking is over, you will realize that your home needs to be thoroughly cleaned from top to bottom and the only way that you can do that is to have basic cleaning materials with you. Of course you can also opt to purchase these items once you’re done unpacking but keep in mind that some stores don’t work during the weekends.
Dishware and utensils
Eating from the pizza box and using plastic forks, spoons and cups may sound fun at first but after a few days you will get tired of it. This is why you must absolute take at least a set of dishware and utensils with you and start the unpacking of your belongings with these items.
